To make a day of it

Ancien château stands in Assas (Hérault), in the Occitanie region of France. The building is listed as a historic monument (dating recorded in the Mérimée database: third quarter of the 18th century). Its opening hours and prices have not been verified at the source yet.

In the village of Assas, a few kilometres from Montpellier, stands a summer residence built in the late 1750s for Jean Mouton de la Clotte, an ennobled banker, likely designed by the architect Jean-Antoine Giral. The façade is notable for its raised corner pavilions and Ionic pilasters, while the interior has kept its original layout, including a music room housing an eighteenth-century harpsichord made famous by several generations of harpsichordists. Parts of the neighbouring château de la Mosson, demolished in 1758, were reused in the building, including the wrought-iron balcony railings.
