To make a day of it

Château de Cahuzac stands in Cahuzac (Aude), in the Occitanie region of France. The building is registered as a historic monument (dating recorded in the Mérimée database: third quarter of the 18th century). The building is privately owned and no visits are on record.

Built in the last third of the 18th century for Justin d'Acher, secretary to King Louis XV, the château de Cahuzac presents a square façade rising two storeys above a raised ground floor. A double staircase leads up to the entrance courtyard, while on the south side a balustraded stair descends to a wide terrace carried on three arches. Inside, the rooms follow the enfilade arrangement typical of the period, centred on an entrance hall opening onto a grand staircase with a wrought-iron rail.
