What the French Ministry of Culture records

Ce château serait l'ancien fief d'Estienne de Vignolles, surnommé La Hire, compagnon de Jeanne d'Arc. L'édifice se compose de bâtiments de diverses époques. Le pavillon central date du 17e siècle. Adjonctions et modifications ont été réalisées au 19e siècle. Le domaine comprend une source émergeant du rocher sur le flanc nord du château, dans une niche construite à la façon d'un temple romain avec un fronton triangulaire. Tout autour a été aménagé un espace dallé, avec une banquette en pierre. Cet ensemble pourrait appartenir à l'époque gallo-romaine ou être un pastiche Renaissance. Le pavillon central du château est surmonté par le premier paratonnerre inventé par J. de Romas (1713-1776) , toujours en service. Ce paratonnerre consiste en une grosse boule de plomb absorbant l'électricité.
