Standing on the banks of the Grande Sauldre, in the Pays-Fort region, Boucard castle still bears in its outer walls, gatehouse and corner towers the marks of a late 14th century stronghold. The Boucard family, and later the Cugnac and La Châtre families who inherited through marriage, gave the castle its Renaissance appearance, with the south wing built around 1520 and the north wing added in 1560. The moats, canals, bridges and gardens surrounding it, laid out in the 18th century for a tax farmer, are also part of the visit to a site that has remained in the same family line to this day.
