What the French Ministry of Culture records

Château aménagé du 12e au 16e siècle. Après avoir appartenu aux La Trémoille au 15e siècle, le château est cédé en 1695 à la famille de Dreux-Brézé. Il ne subit pas de dommages à l'époque révolutionnaire. Dans la seconde moitié du 19e siècle, remaniements importants. Le château s'élève sur une plate-forme ovale entourée d'un fossé dont la contrescarpe est creusée de souterrains et habitations troglodytiques. Des restes de peintures murales du 15e siècle sont conservés dans la chapelle castrale (fondée vers 1200-1250).
