Built from 1439 for Bertrand de Beauvau, counsellor to King René of Anjou, Ternay castle stands in the Vienne department with its pentagonal keep and round machicolated tower. The chapel, finished in 1444, still holds carved decoration made by artists brought from Venice, often seen as the highlight of a visit. Later centuries added a western wing and outbuildings, followed by a major restoration led by architect Ojam between 1861 and 1884. Still lived in by the owning family, the castle also displays rooms with Aubusson tapestries and 1880s interior decoration.
