What the French Ministry of Culture records
Château certainement construit entre le Xème et XIème siècle. Les premières mentions du château se retrouvent dès 1173 dans un traité concernant la séparation du Lyonnais et du Forez. Le château est une possession des comptes du Forez et passera entre les mains du comté à la mort de Renaux du Forez. Le château est acheté en 1521 par Guillaume de Bron seigneur de la ligue à Anne de Baujeau et à son gendre le duc Charles III. La famille du propriétaire actuel Monsieur de Sorbier de Pougnadoresse achète le château au comte de Bron en 1680.
