Château d'Essalois stands in Chambles (Loire), in the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region of France. The building is registered as a historic monument (dating recorded in the Mérimée database: 12th century). Its opening hours and prices have not been verified at the source yet.
Essalois castle overlooks Lake Grangent from a rocky spur above the village of Chambles, in the Loire department. The site was already occupied in Gaulish times before a medieval tower was raised there, later replaced by the main building constructed at the end of the 16th century. Left in ruins and restored twice, once in the 19th century and again since the 1980s, the castle is recognisable by its two round towers standing out over the Loire gorges.
