To make a day of it

Château de Bouthéon stands in Andrézieux-Bouthéon (Loire), in the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region of France. Its opening hours and prices have not been verified at the source yet.

Perched on a promontory above the Loire river and the Forez plain, Bouthéon castle carries seven centuries of history, having belonged in turn to the counts of Forez, the La Fayette family, the Bourbons and the Gadagne family before passing into municipal ownership. Visitors come mainly for the panorama from the belvedere tower, taking in the Forez hills, the Pilat massif and the Lyonnais hills, as well as for the site's museum, aquarium and animal and botanical park. The north wing, dating from the time of Mathieu de Bourbon at the end of the 15th century, still displays decoration bearing the emblems of the Bourbon dukes and the reigning monarchs.
