In Beaurepaire, in the Oise department, stands one of the oldest castles near the Halatte forest, built in an L shape and surrounded by broad water filled moats. Its origins go back to the 13th century, with a vaulted cellar and a spiral staircase still remaining, but most of what can be seen today results from successive building phases between the 15th and 17th centuries. Visitors can see an octagonal tower dated 1577, original mullioned windows, and an extensive estate of outbuildings, gardens and moats.
