In Senlis, the remains of the royal castle stand at the corner of a former Gallo-Roman wall, on which the first Capetian builders set their residence in the 12th century. A Romanesque tower marks the entrance, likely the remnant of a rectangular keep, while a section of the ancient Late Empire wall is embedded in the royal lodgings. The site also includes the Saint-Maurice priory founded by Louis IX, whose prior's lodge now houses the Museum of Venery. Part of the structure remains closed for safety reasons, pending restoration work.
