In Thiers-sur-Thève, in the Oise department, stand the remains of a 13th-century stronghold built for the bishops of Beauvais rather than for warfare. The square enclosure, flanked by nine round towers, still shows traces of a great hall whose wide windows opened onto the surrounding countryside, an unusual choice for its time. Ruined as early as 1358 and later dismantled, the site went on to serve as a quarry and farmland, and private houses now stand among the remaining stones.
