To make a day of it

Château de Bannegon stands in Bannegon (Cher), in the Centre-Val de Loire region of France. The building is listed as a historic monument (dating recorded in the Mérimée database: 13th century, 14th century, 15th century, 16th century). Its opening hours and prices have not been verified at the source yet.

At the border between the Berry and Bourbonnais regions, the château de Bannegon raises its drawbridge keep on the banks of the Auron river, ringed by moats fed by the river itself. The trapezoidal fortified compound still holds the Tour des Barres, a 13th-century remnant with a chimney over nine metres high, along with a rare medieval kitchen design capped by a hollow stone pyramid pierced to let smoke escape. The place endured the Wars of Religion, including a siege in 1568 against its lady, before being restored at the end of the 19th century.
