En 1738, Joseph de Bacalan, chevalier, conseiller au Parlement de Bordeaux, achetait la maison noble de Cazalet, paroisse de Ludon. C'est sans-doute de cette époque que date la reconstruction de cette maison des champs. Avec son environnement de dépendances agricoles, son niveau unique aux élévations modestes, sa distribution que caractérisent les petits appartements situés aux extrémités du logis, Bacalan passe pour l'un des exemples les plus aboutis de chartreuse bordelaise.
