Near Tocane-Saint-Apre in the Dordogne, the château de Fayolle stands on the site of a medieval fortified house recorded as early as 1220, repeatedly attacked during the Hundred Years' War and destroyed in 1485 by the lords of Bourdeilles. The building seen today dates from 1766, designed by the architect Chauvin, and was extended at the end of the 19th century by Léon Drouyn, who added a chapel. Two adjoining wings ending in four pavilions make up the main structure, set within a park alongside former outbuildings including a dovecote.
