What the French Ministry of Culture records
Les vignes du domaine sont réputées dès le 14e siècle. Au 18e siècle, le maréchal de Richelieu offrit des bouteilles à Louis XV. Le vin du domaine devint à Versailles "le vin du Roi". A la Révolution, la propriété devint nationale et fut acquise par un Hollandais, fournisseur aux armées. En 1868, le baron James de Rothschild en devint propriétaire. L'intérieur du château a gardé les différents aspects de trois siècles de civilisation. Dans l'aile latérale, une ancienne cuisine conserve une grande cheminée à tourne-broche et un four à pain. Le grand escalier en pierre du vestibule présente des balustres Louis XIV. Pièces ornées de boiseries ou tapissées. Décor intérieur et mobilier de style Napoléon III. Les caves voûtées sont reliées entre elles par des galeries.
