Château d'Acquigny stands in Acquigny (Eure), in the Normandie region of France. The building is listed as a historic monument (dating recorded in the Mérimée database: second half of the 16th century, 18th century). Adult admission costs 9 EUR. Standing where the Eure and Iton rivers meet, Acquigny castle occupies the site of a medieval stronghold razed in 1378, fought over during the Hundred Years' War between Navarrese and royal French forces. The present building, raised by Anne de Laval from 1557 onward, is notable for its corner turret with stacked loggias resting on a scallop shaped squinch, decorated with the entwined initials of the founding couple. The formal park, crossed by a network of canals feeding water mirrors and a grand canal, was reshaped in the 19th century with an artificial river, cascades and rock bridges. Visitors today can tour the château and its listed grounds.
