The motte of Mauguio is an earthen mound dating from the 10th century, where the counts established themselves after the destruction of nearby Maguelone. This remarkable archaeological site, rising 24 metres high and largely preserved, shows the progressive settlement of a feudal power that was abandoned at the end of the 11th century. Around the motte remain traces of medieval occupation: ditches, palisades and drainage structures, while the site was transformed into a public garden in the 19th century, with a water reservoir and a belvedere tower.
