Standing on a feudal motte at the edge of the Auge region, the Argentelles manor house dates from the 15th century and still looks like the medieval watch post it once was, built to guard the approaches to Exmes. What sets it apart is its architectural unity: the whole building was designed and built in a single campaign, unlike most Norman manor houses which grew through successive additions. Only two carved stone dormer windows, added in the 17th century, soften its defensive appearance. The tower that once watched over the motte and its moats now serves as a dovecote.
