What the French Ministry of Culture records
Architecture militaire développée du Moyen-Age au 19e siècle. Site constitué d'enceintes successives, revu par Vauban qui développa un tracé bastionné pour la quatrième et la cinquième enceintes. Reconstruction du fort (cinquième enceinte) entreprise entre 1879 et 1881 suivant le principe Séré de Rivières. En 1881, ajout de deux casemates (de type Mougin) cuirassées.
