To make a day of it

Zaunburg stands in Alten-Buseck (Landkreis Gießen), in Hesse, Germany. No visits are on record for this building.

The Zaunburg was a fortification that has since vanished, located in the Alten-Buseck district of Buseck. Nothing of its structure remains above ground: only a street name, "An der Zaunburg," marks its former location. First recorded in 1442 in connection with the von Buseck family, it may have served as the shared ancestral seat of the von Buseck and von Trohe lineages, though this remains unconfirmed. Around 1950, traces of a mound, a moat, remnants of walls, and a vaulted cellar could still be seen, but these have since been built over.

What to know

  • No visible structure of the Zaunburg survives today, as the site has been built over.
  • Only the street name "An der Zaunburg" indicates the historical location of the fortification.
  • A visit is therefore limited to a walk through the area, with no architectural remains to see.
  • There is no visitor information such as hours or admission, as the site is not set up for public access.
