To make a day of it
Wasserburg Zilly stands in Osterwieck (Landkreis Harz), in Saxony-Anhalt, Germany. The building is a listed Baudenkmal. Its opening hours and prices have not been verified at the source yet.
The Wasserburg Zilly stands beside an old military road, amid once marshy meadows, in the hamlet of Zilly that belongs to the town of Osterwieck. Its original round layout, ringed by two water moats, dates from an uncertain period, though a stronghold called Xillingho is already recorded here in 1172. In the 13th century a square main building was added on the western side and became the principal residence, while the earlier round structure turned into an outer bailey. Visitors today find a rectangular keep topped with a baroque cap, a sizeable knights' hall, and a chamber decorated with late Renaissance wall paintings now used for weddings.
