To make a day of it
Derenburg (Pfalz) stands in Blankenburg (Landkreis Harz), in Saxony-Anhalt, Germany. Its opening hours and prices have not been verified at the source yet.
The Pfalz of Derenburg was a Carolingian and later Ottonian royal residence, now vanished, located north of the present-day village of Derenburg in Saxony-Anhalt. Its site was only identified in 1991, through systematic aerial surveys of the Anisberg terrain, which revealed the ditches of an outer bailey and the wall of a main enclosure. There is no standing building to visit here: this is a place of archaeological memory rather than a monument to walk through. Its significance lies in its political role under the Ottonian emperors, who stayed there on a regular basis.
