To make a day of it

Wasserburg Rückingen stands in Erlensee (Main-Kinzig-Kreis), in Hesse, Germany. The building is a listed Baudenkmal. Its opening hours and prices have not been verified at the source yet.

The Wasserburg Rückingen stands near the old centre of the Rückingen district in Erlensee, just north of the Kinzig river. Of this former moated stronghold, first recorded in 1248 and destroyed and rebuilt several times, a corner building with a round tower and a substantial stretch of the ring wall survive, dating largely from the first half of the 15th century. The moat, once linked to the river, was filled in during the 19th century. The building now houses a local history museum covering Rückingen and Langendiebach, including a section on the nearby Roman fort of Rückingen.
