To make a day of it
Untere Burg stands in Rheinbreitbach (Landkreis Neuwied), in Rhineland-Palatinate, Germany. The building is a listed Baudenkmal. No visits are on record for this building.
The Untere Burg stands in the middle of the village of Rheinbreitbach, right beside the parish church of St Mary Magdalene. Ancestral seat of the lords of Breitbach from the 14th century, this former moated stronghold no longer survives as a standing building: only the foundations of the main house have been uncovered and rebuilt as a dry stone wall, displayed to the public on what is now called Renesse-Platz. The round-arched gateway and an 18th-century timber-framed outbuilding still stand nearby. Visitors mainly come to read the ground plan and take in the setting of a former moated castle in the heart of the village.
