Burg Vilzelt is a small former moated manor house in the Heister district of Unkel, by the Rhine. First documented in 1290, it passed through several noble Rhenish families over the centuries, including the Nesselrode and later the Sobeck-Werder. The present plain building, with its slate roof of local Unkel stone and an elegant 18th-century portal, is still privately occupied today. It can be seen from the hiking trails that run along the Rhine, including the Rheinsteig.
