Schloss Parchen stands in the Landkreis Jerichower Land, in Saxony-Anhalt, on the site of a medieval Burg first recorded in the 12th century. The present manor house, reshaped over several centuries, still has accessible remains of the original fortification beneath its foundations. Now cared for by a heritage association, it houses a small exhibition on the regional landed nobility and on the Sachsenspiegel. The surrounding park, originally landscaped along lines associated with Peter Joseph Lenné, survives only in part.
What to know
- Remains of the medieval Burg lie beneath the current building and can be partly visited.
- The site is maintained by a local heritage association, which shapes how visits are organised.
- A permanent exhibition covers the regional landed nobility, especially the von Byern family, and the Sachsenspiegel.
- The original landscaped park, inspired by Peter Joseph Lenné, lost part of its extent during the East German period.
- It is advisable to contact the association beforehand, as visits are not run on a standard opening schedule.
