To make a day of it

Schloss Neuendettelsau stands in Neuendettelsau (Landkreis Ansbach), in Bavaria, Germany. The building is a listed Baudenkmal. Its opening hours and prices have not been verified at the source yet.

Schloss Neuendettelsau stands in the centre of the village of the same name, in the Landkreis Ansbach, Bavaria, on the site of a former outer bailey. A moated stronghold was first built here in the 12th century by the imperial ministeriales of Vestenberg, later passing through the hands of several noble families, including the Seckendorff. Since 1518 the estate has belonged to the barons von Eyb, whose descendants still own it today. The present building does not correspond to the vanished medieval castrum but occupies its former outer court.

What to know

  • The Schloss still belongs to the von Eyb family and remains private property, with no published visiting hours.
  • The current building replaces the original medieval castrum, of which nothing survives.
  • The site sits within the village of Neuendettelsau, near other locations tied to the local history, including those connected to pastor Wilhelm Löhe.
  • No information is available on accessibility, parking or dogs, so these should be checked locally.
