Schloss Laufenthal stands in Hemau, Bavaria, on a site held from the twelfth century by the lords of Laufenthal, who served as ministeriales of Prüfening Abbey. The present building, a three-storey Baroque structure with a hipped roof, was rebuilt in 1698 and later gained a four-storey tower and an annexe with a balcony, both from the eighteenth century. Nearby stands the former castle chapel of St Ottilia, now a Catholic parish church, whose high altar dates from 1692. The property remains in private hands and cannot be visited inside, though it can be seen from the outside.
