To make a day of it

Schloss Kewenig stands in Körperich (Eifelkreis Bitburg-Prüm), in Rhineland-Palatinate, Germany. The building is a listed Baudenkmal. Its opening hours and prices have not been verified at the source yet.

Schloss Kewenig is a former manor house in Körperich, Rhineland-Palatinate, counted among the oldest estate houses of the Eifelkreis Bitburg-Prüm district. Its core is a sixteenth-century moated house of near-square plan with four round corner towers, to which two neo-Gothic wings were added during the nineteenth century. Visitors today encounter a layered building where the original fortified core meets later additions, including a neo-Gothic staircase hall and a stone fireplace dated 1559, brought here from Schloss Neuerburg in 1912.

What to know

  • The Schloss is privately owned and is mainly accessible on the occasion of events, Christmas markets or summer festivals held on the grounds.
  • There are no regular public opening hours listed for this site.
  • The building is listed as a Kulturdenkmal in Germany.
  • The structure combines a sixteenth-century moated house with nineteenth-century neo-Gothic wings, making it a layered building rather than a single-period monument.
  • Part of the outbuildings suffered a fire in 2013, which may account for ongoing restoration work visible on site.
