To make a day of it
Schloss Hungen stands in Hungen (Landkreis Gießen), in Hesse, Germany. The building is a listed Baudenkmal. Its opening hours and prices have not been verified at the source yet.
Schloss Hungen stands on the site of a fortified complex documented as early as 1383, once held by the Falkenstein family before passing to the Counts of Solms in the early 15th century. The present building reflects several building phases carried out by the Solms-Braunfels line, beginning around 1455 under Bernhard II, extended between 1487 and 1492, and later reshaped under Count Philipp, who had a staircase tower built in 1574. The site also carries a darker chapter: during the Second World War it served as a storage point for a Nazi institute collecting Jewish cultural property looted across Western Europe. Restored after years of decay, it was reopened to public view in 2014, forty years after being donated to a group of owners.
