To make a day of it

Schloss Haigerloch stands in Haigerloch (Zollernalbkreis), in Baden-Württemberg, Germany. Its opening hours and prices have not been verified at the source yet.

Schloss Haigerloch rises above the Eyach valley on the site of a stronghold first recorded in 1095. The counts of Hohenzollern-Haigerloch had it rebuilt into an extensive Renaissance complex under master builder Michael Beer, with a further wing added in 1700. The former palace church, now Haigerloch's parish church, holds a high altar consecrated in 1609 with more than sixty wooden figures, regarded as a major work of Renaissance sculpture in the Hohenzollern region. Beneath the rock on which the building stands, a wartime nuclear experiment site from the Second World War now houses the Atomkeller Museum.

What to know

  • The site is located in Haigerloch, in the Zollernalbkreis district, in Baden-Württemberg.
