To make a day of it
Schloss Wachendorf stands in Starzach (Landkreis Tübingen), in Baden-Württemberg, Germany. Its opening hours and prices have not been verified at the source yet.
Schloss Wachendorf stands at Starzach, above the Neckar valley, as the ancestral seat of the Barons von Ow, one of the oldest noble families in southwestern Germany. The complex brings together several building periods: a stone house from the thirteenth and fourteenth centuries, now forming the first two floors of the old castle, extended westward by a new castle wing and, to the north, by Renaissance courtyard buildings. The so-called Reiterhaus, dating from the seventeenth century, completes the ensemble and now hosts seminars and events. The estate remains in the hands of the von Ow-Wachendorf family, who continue to run it as a working farm and forestry operation.
What to know
- The castle remains inhabited and managed by the von Ow-Wachendorf family, owners for generations.
- The estate combines buildings from several periods, from the medieval stone house to Renaissance additions.
- The seventeenth-century Reiterhaus is used for seminars and private events rather than for individual visits.
- Farming and forestry still take place around the castle, including a memorial forest on the estate.
