To make a day of it

Schloss Hohentübingen sits on a rocky spur above the old town of Tübingen, overlooking the Neckar valley. A medieval fortress already stood on the site, first recorded in writing in 1078 during a siege by King Henry IV. In the 16th century, Duke Ulrich of Württemberg had a large complex built over the older ramparts, combining fortress and residence, with four corner towers and an inner courtyard once lined with galleries. Today the church and university collections housed inside can be visited.
