To make a day of it
Schloss Crossen stands in Crossen an der Elster (Saale-Holzland-Kreis), in Thuringia, Germany. Its opening hours and prices have not been verified at the source yet.
Crossen Palace stands on a rocky spur above the White Elster valley, on the site of a medieval stronghold first recorded in 995. Of the present building, erected between 1701 and 1712 for the merchant David von Fletscher, the Romanesque keep from the earlier fortress survives, absorbed into the main wing. Its most notable feature is the two-storey Baroque hall, decorated with trompe l'oeil paintings by the Italian artist Giovanni Francesco Marchini, regarded as a major work of Baroque illusionism in Thuringia. The estate also includes an outer courtyard flanked by two matching pavilions and a former service building, along with a park that has grown wild over time.
