Schloss Burgscheidungen stands above the Unstrut valley at Laucha an der Unstrut, on a site inhabited since the Neolithic era and recorded as a stronghold as early as the Carolingian period. The present baroque building resulted from a reconstruction carried out between 1724 and 1729 for the von der Schulenburg family, designed by the Leipzig architect David Schatz, a pupil of Pöppelmann. Visitors today find a terraced garden laid out at that time, alongside traces of the earlier medieval castle once held by the lords of Scheidingen.
