Bruchsal Palace was built from 1722 as the residence of the Prince-Bishops of Speyer, following designs by Maximilian von Welsch later reworked by Balthasar Neumann. The complex is arranged around three wings and is known above all for its grand staircase, regarded as one of the finest achievements of Baroque architecture in Germany. The Fürstensaal and the Kaisersaal, with their frescoes and stuccowork, rank among the palace's most accomplished rooms. Largely destroyed by an air raid in March 1945, the building underwent a partial reconstruction that continued into the 2010s.
