To make a day of it

Scheiffartsburg stands in Weilerswist (Kreis Euskirchen), in North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany. No visits are on record for this building.

The Scheiffartsburg, also called Weilerburg, was a fortified manor in Weilerswist, in North Rhine-Westphalia. Nothing of the complex remains standing today: the last surviving remnant, a brick tower stump, was torn down in 1945. It is therefore a place of historical interest rather than a visitable monument, known mainly through an old drawing by Renier Roidkin showing a late Gothic stepped-gable manor house alongside a cluster of smaller buildings and a corner tower.

What to know

  • No structure remains standing on the site; the castle has entirely disappeared.
  • The last remains, a brick tower base, were demolished in 1945 by American troops, who used the stones to build temporary bridges.
  • There are no visiting hours, fees or access information, since this is not a preserved monument.
  • The site's history is known mainly through sale deeds and an old drawing, with no visible archaeological remains today.
