To make a day of it
Ruine Königsburg stands in Oberharz am Brocken (Landkreis Harz), in Saxony-Anhalt, Germany. The building is a listed Baudenkmal. Recorded dating: 14th century. No visits are on record for this building.
Near Königshütte in the Harz mountains, a wooded promontory carries the scant remains of Königsburg castle, overlooking the point where the Warme Bode and Kalte Bode rivers meet. What endures today amounts to little more than fragments of the keep together with faint traces of ditches and ramparts. Looking out from the ruins, one can clearly spot the Wurmberg and the Brocken, the two peaks that dominate the surrounding landscape. Documents first mention the stronghold in 1312 under the name castrum Königshof, though by the early 1700s it already lay abandoned.
