To make a day of it
Ahlsburg stands in Ilsenburg (Landkreis Harz), in Saxony-Anhalt, Germany. Recorded dating: 14th century. No visits are on record for this building.
The Ahlsburg, also known as Alerdestein, is the ruined site of a former Imperial castle overlooking the Ecker valley near Ilsenburg in the Harz mountains. Likely built in the 12th century on a rocky spur with steep granite cliffs, it belonged to Imperial territory and was linked to the Werla royal palace. Only fragments of foundations, low walls and the surrounding moat survive today. The main appeal lies in the wild setting above the river that once marked the border with Lower Saxony.
