To make a day of it
Harburg (Harz) stands in Wernigerode (Landkreis Harz), in Saxony-Anhalt, Germany. The building is a listed Baudenkmal. Its opening hours and prices have not been verified at the source yet.
The Harburg was a medieval hilltop stronghold built around 1150 near Wernigerode, in the Harz mountains. Nothing of the original structure remains standing, only the mound of the former castle site, whose platform measures roughly sixteen by fifty two metres. A Bismarck monument stood there until 1956, and its memory lives on in the name of the lookout tower now built on the spot. Visitors mainly come today for the view and the excursion inn located on the grounds.
