The Ruine Hohenjungingen sits on a rocky summit known as the Bürgle, at 739 metres above sea level, roughly one kilometre south of the village of Jungingen. Built most likely in the second half of the 12th century by the lords of Jungingen, this hilltop stronghold was destroyed as early as 1311 during the town war led by Reutlingen. Excavations carried out between 1952 and 1955 uncovered the remains of a residential keep measuring over ten metres on each side, along with a courtyard and a lower outer bailey.
