To make a day of it
Osterburg (Groothusen) stands in Krummhörn (Landkreis Aurich), in Lower Saxony, Germany. The building is a listed Baudenkmal. Its opening hours and prices have not been verified at the source yet.
The Osterburg stands in Groothusen, ringed by its moat and reached only by a stone bridge, the last of the three fortified houses this East Frisian village once held. Its stone hall, raised around 1490 by the Beninga chieftain family, gained wings, a barn and an entrance hall over the following centuries, changes that hide the original outline from the courtyard side though it remains visible from the rear. Inside are rooms furnished since the Baroque period, reflecting shifting tastes across generations, along with an ancestral gallery of portraits spanning five centuries. The house remains in the hands of Beninga descendants and can be visited by prior telephone arrangement.
