To make a day of it
Norderburg (Dornum) stands in Dornum (Landkreis Aurich), in Lower Saxony, Germany. The building is a listed Baudenkmal. Its opening hours and prices have not been verified at the source yet.
The Norderburg, also known as Schloss Dornum, is a moated castle in the East Frisian village of Dornum in Lower Saxony. Originally built in the 14th century as the stronghold of a local chieftain, it was destroyed in 1514, rebuilt in brick soon after, and then transformed between 1698 and 1707 into a Dutch-style baroque residence. Visitors pass through a gatehouse from 1678 topped with a tower added in 1707 before reaching the main courtyard and the manor itself, which still contains a knights' hall with a painted ceiling and 17th-century family portraits. The building now houses a school, which shapes what can actually be seen on site.
