Neues Schloss Herrenchiemsee stands in Chiemsee (Landkreis Rosenheim), in Bavaria, Germany. The building is a listed Baudenkmal. Recorded dating: 19th century. Its opening hours and prices have not been verified at the source yet.
The Neues Schloss Herrenchiemsee stands on the Herreninsel, an island in the Chiemsee lake in Bavaria. King Ludwig II had it built from 1878 onward as a tribute to Versailles, which he had long admired but only managed to visit in 1874. Left unfinished at the king's death in 1886, the palace still displays a grand staircase, a state bedroom and a large hall of mirrors modeled on the French original. Only a portion of the rooms was ever completed and furnished, the rest remaining at the design stage.
