Schloss Brannenburg stands in Brannenburg, in the Landkreis Rosenheim, Bavaria, at the northern edge of the Alps. The present complex was built between 1872 and 1875 by architect Joseph von Schmaedel for Major Max Reinhardt in the English Neo-Gothic style, replacing an earlier structure from 1561. The ensemble includes the main residential block, a chapel dedicated to the Holy Cross, two secondary buildings and a 19th-century park with a bronze Neptune fountain. Over the centuries the site passed through several phases, from a Renaissance remodelling under Hans Caspar von Pienzenau in the 16th century to its current Neo-Gothic appearance.
