To make a day of it

Ginsburg stands in Hilchenbach (Kreis Siegen-Wittgenstein), in North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany. The building is a listed Baudenkmal. Its opening hours and prices have not been verified at the source yet.

The Ginsburg is a ruined hilltop castle above the hamlet of Grund, near Hilchenbach, in the southern Rothaar Mountains. Built in the early 13th century on the remains of an earlier stronghold, it long stood as a border fortress for the House of Nassau against the Counts of Wittgenstein and the territories of the Electorate of Cologne. Visitors come today for the view from its round tower, rebuilt during restoration work in the 1960s, and for the site's striking position at a crossing of old trade routes on the watershed between the Rhine and the Weser. The tower is still used as a function hall and for weddings.
