To make a day of it
Erichsburg stands in Dassel (Landkreis Northeim), in Lower Saxony, Germany. The building is a listed Baudenkmal. Its opening hours and prices have not been verified at the source yet.
The Erichsburg stands at the edge of the hamlet bearing its name, on marshy ground surrounded by ponds in the Landkreis Northeim in Lower Saxony. Built in the 16th century on the orders of Duke Eric I of Brunswick-Lüneburg, it replaced a nearby fortress destroyed during a siege, and was later extended in the early 17th century by Duke Julius of Wolfenbüttel. The building belongs to the type of lowland castles protected by moats and earthworks, and served various purposes over the centuries, including as a theological seminary. Now privately owned, the Erichsburg retains well-kept grounds with moats, ponds and old trees, while the staircase tower still shows signs of wear.
