Heldenburg stands in Einbeck (Landkreis Northeim), in Lower Saxony, Germany. The building is a listed Baudenkmal. Its opening hours and prices have not been verified at the source yet.
The Heldenburg, also known as Burg Salzderhelden, stands in ruins above the Einbeck district of the same name, at the foot of the Kleiner Heldenberg. From 1291 to 1596 it served as a residence, at times the principal one, of the Guelph dukes of Grubenhagen, before falling gradually into decay. Surviving today are the walls of a four-wing complex around a square courtyard, remains of the great hall, a chapel on the upper floor, a spiral staircase tower of forty-nine steps and a keep. The ramparts and the well, marked on the surface by a ring of stones at the centre of the courtyard, give a sense of the scale this ducal seat once had.
