To make a day of it

Entersburg stands in Hontheim (Landkreis Bernkastel-Wittlich), in Rhineland-Palatinate, Germany. The building is a listed Baudenkmal. Its opening hours and prices have not been verified at the source yet.

The Entersburg refers to the remains of a vanished medieval fortification, standing on a rocky spur above the Üßbach valley near Hontheim. The site saw three successive occupations: a Celtic Iron Age rampart, a Roman fortification from the 3rd century with its watchtower, and a medieval castle built before 1096 by the lords of Nantersburg, destroyed in 1138 on the orders of the Archbishop of Trier. Today only foundations remain, along with a 19th century lookout tower, the Steffenswarte, erected on the former castle grounds.
